| Volunteering |
| In its initial phase, Ombudsman Programs across the nation were volunteer based programs. From its inception, the program in California was volunteer based. In recent years, Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County made a paradigm shift: rather than consider ourselves as a volunteer based program we have made very intentional changes to be a professional program with volunteers at the core.
Our volunteers are without doubt our most treasured asset. Without them, we would not be able to provide the level of services needed in our community. Our volunteers are trained to be professionals in the field and are held to the same high standards to which we hold our staff. Together we have built a cohesive, highly motivated, and committed team of volunteers who give generously of time and effort to improve the lives of those they serve.
